Instructional DVD #3 Techniques for Shaded Etching by Norm Dobbins. The most beautiful but least known technique, producing effects that looked very much like airbrushing, except that they are permanently etched into the glass. Because this is a multi-stage technique, the elements of a design can touch each other, so designs can be much more sophisticated than with surface etching. With the shading technique, the distinctions between elements are created by manipulating the shades of gray between two elements that touch such as in clouds. Shading is more sophisticated than carving but is faster to produce. Four full size patterns for projects presented on the tape are included, so you can follow along with the tape to quickly learn the shading technique.
